Why Dose Matters
“Dose” is the total energy your cells receive during a red light therapy session, measured in joules per square centimeter (J/cm²). If the dose is too low, you may not see results; if it’s too high, the benefits can diminish. Your dose is determined by your device’s irradiance (higher power requires less time) and the duration of your treatment.
Understanding dose is key to maximizing results, especially with a powerful device like LUMEBOX, which can target everything from surface skin to deeper muscles and joints.
LUMEBOX Dose Recommendations Based on Our Irradiance Levels
For skin health:
Distance from face = 6 inches
Irradiance = 22.5 mW/cm²
Time = 6-minute cycle
Dose per session = 8.1 J/cm²
Studies suggest that facial skin requires less light energy, making lower irradiance more suitable. That’s why we recommend using LUMEBOX at 15 cm (6 inches), where a 6-minute session delivers approximately 7-8 J/cm² of energy—consistent with research-backed doses for skin health. For deeper tissues like joints & muscles:
Distance from surface = 1 cm
Irradiance = 140 mW/cm²
Time = 12-minute cycle
Dose per session = 100.8 J/cm²
Studies suggest that higher irradiance improves light penetration into deeper tissues and is beneficial for areas like muscles and joints. PMID 25722067, 27359205, 20626264
These are just examples—everyone’s needs are different when it comes to light exposure. You may require more or less than the amounts above. We recommend starting small (2–3 minutes a few times per week) and adjusting as neede!
